Assam Government has change the method of calculating electricity tax in the state. The tax method has been changed after a period of 64 years. The move will enable Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to levy a higher electricity duty. Now, one has to pay only 20 paise per unit consumed, after this new rule – 5% of the total energy cost will be paid as duty. The move will increase the tax along with increase in tariff.
