Numaligarh Refinery to produce bio ethanol

Numaligarh Refinery and Finnish technology firm Chempolis Oy are planning to set up a plant to produce bio ethanol using bamboo. The company will crush bamboo, the longest of the grass family, to produce 60 million litres of ethanol every year in the tea producing state of Assam. Bio Ethanol produced in the project is enough to meet mandatory requirements for blending with gasoline in the entire north-eastern region. The eight states that lie at the foot of the Himalayas together make up about two-thirds of India’s total bamboo production.
