Assam Petrochemicals to set up acetic acid plant in Namrup

Assam Petrochemicals Ltd is to set up an acetic and methanol plant in Namrup in Dibruah district of Assam with an investment of Rs. 102 billion. The company has signed debt agreements with banks and government and other state government corporation to fund the project. The new facility is likely to go operational by end 2018. Methanol is used in the manufacture of acetic acid, formaldehyde, and is used as a feedstock by dyestuff industry for the manufacture of proteins that are synthetic. Acetic acid is used in textile and garment industry for dyeing purposes.

In May 2017, the company has conducted bhoomi pooja to implement the project. As of March 2018, the project is under implementation
