Barak Power plans 250 MW coal based thermal project in Silchar

Barak Power Pvt. Ltd ( a joint venture between BHEL and PTC India) is planning to set up 250 MW (2 x 125 MW) coal based thermal power project in Silchar in Assam with an investment of Rs. 10,000 million. The project is likely to go operational in December 2014.The project was announced in September 2008 with a capacity of 250 MW (2 X125MW) and is to be executed on build, own and operated basis. The project is yet to make headway. Due to non availability of local coal, the power plant has not been found to be viable and the company had been wound up.
